Creative Ways to Clean the Tile Grout

If you are uncertain about buying tile grout cleaners, you can try some of the available cleaning supplies in your home. There are DIY ways available on the internet when it comes to different and creative cleaning hacks, even on the tile grout that you can do. Here are some of them:

Baking soda + Vinegar

Materials: baking soda, vinegar, water, grout brush or old toothbrush, favorite essential oil (optional)

This grout cleaner involves two great natural cleaning solutions, the baking soda, and vinegar. The essential oil is optional since it will use to neutralize the smell resulted from the vinegar. However, this recipe is not for natural stone tiles.

Baking soda + Hydrogen peroxide

Materials: 1 cup of baking soda, 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide

The hydrogen peroxide is another best partner with baking soda when it comes to cleaning your tiles. This solution is excellent in releasing bleaching oxygen, especially with baking soda. If you want to clean your tiled areas with minimal elbow grease as possible, this can be the combination you need.

Oxygenated bleach

Materials: 2 tablespoons of oxygenated bleach, 2 cups of warm water

The usage of oxygenated bleach as a cleaner is safe and applicable to almost every type of tiles, like in PORCELAIN TILE CLEANING. Moreover, this solution is also useful in cleaning laminate flooring. However, if you have colored grout, this is not a good idea to use because this cleaning ingredient can harm the color of the grout.

Any type of bleach is corrosive. So, before using this, be sure that there is no trace of other cleaners, especially vinegar. The presence of vinegar can cause toxic chlorine gas and is extremely dangerous.

Baking soda + Hydrogen peroxide + Dishwashing soap

Materials: ¾ cup of baking soda, ¼ cup of hydrogen peroxide, 1 tablespoon dishwashing soap

This all-natural tile cleaner performs well with all types of areas where grout is present like a bathroom, shower area, and living room. The powers of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda works well with the dish soap’s ability to cut through dirt and grease.

The Power of Water in Grout Cleaning

The water is one of the most neutral solvents and is also the most gentle and safe in cleaning every kind of area, even the tiles and grout. Moreover, it balances the high acidity of vinegar and alkalinity of bleach.

The Steam Process in Cleaning Bathroom and Shower Tiles

Compared to other tile areas, the bathroom and shower tiles are more prone to dirt and debris, soap residue, and other bacteria since it is more exposed to water. It is harder to remove, but this can be solved by using a surface cleaner. Spritz it on the tiled floors and shower walls and turn the hot water for five minutes until steam builds up. Wait again for another twenty minutes and wipe it using a clean cloth afterward.

How to Remove Stubborn Grout Stains

If the grout still looks dirty and dull despite cleaning it thoroughly, try using the following:

  1. Neutral cleaner- Use this cleaner and a stiff brush scrub the area.
  2. Magic Eraser- use a clean cloth and water to remove remaining grout cleaner.
  3. Alkaline cleaner- this is effective in intensely stubborn stains. However, it is essential to conduct a patch test first before using. Put a cleaner in a small spot of the area, then wait for five minutes to make sure there are no discoloration or any changes in the area. This means that it is safe to use on that area.

How Often to Clean the Grout

It is important that the tile grout has a regular cleaning schedule to ensure that it is well-maintained and reduce the risk of producing mildew and other bacteria on the area. The moment is appears discoloration or dirty, take more time to focus on cleansing this. However, the frequency should also depend on the type of tile and how often the surface is used.

Importance of Sealing after tile Grout Cleaning

Once the tile grout are clean, another best way to enhance and maintain its good condition is to put some sealers on it. These grout sealers guarantee to improve the grout as it prevent the grimes, molds, and grits from penetrating the porous material. How often to put sealers depend on how often the area is used, but as much as possible, do it on an annual basis. In doing this, make sure you have to wait at least 24 hours after deep scrubbing and applying the sealer to ensure that the grout is completely dry.
